Imphal, March 03 2022:
As the electioneering period for the second phase of election expired today, Congress party made all attempts to woo voters by questioning BJP's commitment on several key issues of the State.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhavan here this afternoon, AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das asserted that BJP has destroyed the future of the hills in Manipur by not holding Autonomous District Council elections.
He then reminded that the Congress party has already promised to hold Autonomous District Council elections within six months.
Saying that both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister are completely silent on the Naga peace accord signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM), Bhakta Charan Das remarked that this silence is a complete mockery of the Naga people and peace process in the North East region.

BJP is indulging in organised violence and suppression of democracy to capture power through all means, he said.
In the valley they are using their cadres to shoot down their opponents, burn their vehicles and intimidate voters.
In the hills, they (BJP) are using banned outfits to compromise and influence elections in the four districts of Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal and Chandel, Bhakta Charan Das alleged.
He said that they have proof of BJP paying crores of rupees to banned SoO groups in stark violation of the model code of conduct.
The BJP Government in Manipur files NSA and sedition charges against journalists and anyone who criticise them.
This is why, BJP would never repeal AFSPA, he continued.
The Congress leader asserted that neither the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister nor the Chief Minister is committed to remove AFSPA from Manipur, he said.
However, Congress party, if elected to power, would remove AFSPA from the entire State in the larger interest of the people, he asserted.
He went on to accuse the BJP-led Government of masterminding all the mega drug scams worth hundreds and thousands of crores in the State.
There is an intimate relationship between the BJP-led Government and drug mafias, and BJP has given its tickets to so many persons accused in drug cases, he said.
If BJP continues to remain in power, they would continue their business with drug mafias and completely damage the future of the youth of Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das said.
"We must fight together against the drug mafias and BJP to save our future generations in the State", he said.
He said that BJP has been scheming to temper people's mandate by indulging in all kinds of electoral malpractices including capturing of polling booths and rigging.
They are indulging in all such malpractices for they have lost all hope of winning the election.
He said that BJP supporters vandalised around 10 vehicles of the Congress candidate in Sugnu AC this morning.
The voters of Manipur would not be fooled by BJP and Congress is sweeping the second phase, he claimed.
He went on to claim that farmers of Thoubal and Kakching would vote for Congress party to make Manipur self-sufficient in rice production.
"We have ensured highest MSP for rice in Chhattisgarh.
We will ensure the same for farmers of Manipur.
They would vote for Congress to end shortage of Urea.
The farmers of the hills would vote for Congress to transform horticulture, agri-business and for installation of food parks", he continued.
Congress party, if elected to power, would ensure social security for State Government employees by abolishing the new pension scheme and reinstating the old pension scheme, Bhakta Charan Das said.
MPCC working president T Mangibabu who was also present at the press meet said that Imphal-Jiribam railway project was completed by 75 per cent in 2008 when Dr Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister but the BJP-led Government is still unable to complete the project.
He decried that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was misleading the public by speaking in such a way as if the railway project was taken up by BJP at the first place.
