Imphal, March 03 2022:
Langthabal Block Congress Committee spokesperson Thoudam Gyaneshore has categorically denied the allegation made by BJP candidate of Langthabal AC Karam Shyam that Indian National Congress workers carried out various undemocratic acts and poll related violence at many polling stations in the AC on February 28 .
The statement was made during a press conference held this afternoon at the residence of INC candidate Okram Joy in Kakwa.
Addressing the media persons, he shared that Congress as a party not only has a strong belief in the concept of non-violence but the party itself carries out its works based on this concept.
As such, the allegation that Congress workers carried out undemocratic or violent acts at some polling stations on poll day is a complete fabrication, he stated.

Refuting the allegation made by Karam Shyam that Laishram Gourakishore (Girin), an employee at Manipur State Assembly, beat up a BJP polling agent and threatened to set fire to his house at polling station 20/18, Naorem Leikai Sofa Leirak on February 28, Thoudam Gyaneshore clarified that L Girin was the Presiding Officer of the concerned polling station and in no way connected to the Congress.
However, he admitted that an incident had occurred wherein BJP workers had concocted a story about the presiding officer and called the BJP MLA in order to capture the polling booth.
At this juncture an altercation broke out between the workers and the people, he added.
Further, he also refuted the MLA's allegation that Okram Joy's wife kicked at a ritualistic pot (ghot chafu) and broke a lantern kept at a BJP polling camp in Kakwa stating that this incident never occurred.
Thoudam Gyaneshore continued to say that the Congress has no inclination to indulge in petty back and forths and also expressed surprise at the MLA's poorly thought out accusations.
T Nando, spokesperson of the Election Committee, Langthabal Block Congress Committee also spoke at the press conference.
He alleged that an argument had broken out at polling station 20/4 Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai when a BJP worker by the name of 'Robin Blackie' along with a group of people arrived at the polling station towards the end of voting.
He further alleged that the BJP MLA had also attempted to capture the booth at Oinam Leikai.
However, his attempt had been thwarted by the people of the locality, he added.
Afterwards, the electoral process continued peacefully throughout the AC and the only instances of violence and disruptions were caused by the BJP, he further alleged.
Separately, a sit-in-protest was staged at Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai Phouoibee Lampak in condemnation of MLA Karam Shyam's allegations.
The participating women raised many slogans decrying the accusations.
