Two arrested for damaging poll kits

Imphal, March 03 2022:
Churachandpur district police on March 1 arrested one Onjalal Kipgen of K Phaijang for causing damage to EVM with a hammer.
He was the polling agent of for 57/49-Leinom Polling Station.
As per the FIR registered at district police, Chura-chandpur based on the report submitted by the returning officer, 57- Henglep AC, the EVM allotted to 57/49-Leinom Polling Station was damaged by a person during the first phase of polling on February 28 at about 3:45 p.m.The district police during their course of investigation through eye witness testimony and call tracing arrested Onjalal Kipgen from B Aijalon area of Churachandpur District.
It may be mentioned that such offence is in contravention to Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984, Section 171-C, section 427 and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years and with fine.
On the other hand, Kangpokpi district police arrested an accused namely Manggoulun Haolai (19) son of (L) Lammang Haolai of Mollen, Kamsei Village, Ukhrul District.
He was arrested as per a complaint lodged by returning officer, 46-Saikul AC Bungba Maibam Khuman for causing damage to VVPAT machines around 11:40 am during the first phase election at 46/54-Leplen polling station.
A case was registered at Saikul Police Station on the same day as per the complaint lodged.
Soon after the registration of FIR, District Police led by OC/SKL-PS under the supervision of Seikhomang Khongsai, DSP/G SPM and the overall supervision of Kangpokpi SPAmrita Sinha started investigation of the case by visiting the place of occurrence.
After inspection of the PO and as per the source from one of the personnel deployed, Manggoulun Haolai was arrested on the same day at 4:15 pm from Leplen village near Leplen Primary School.
Investigation is also on to arrest the other co-accused persons, informed a release of CEO Manipur.
