Working hard to restore mutual trust, says CM

Imphal, August 02 2026: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has stated that the State Government has been working hard to re-establish mutual trust between Meiteis and Kukis which was lost after the May 3, 2023 violence.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the launch of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan held at the Manipur University auditorium today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the event with Nationwide virtual interaction with youth across the country from New Delhi.

Yumnam Khemchand stated that the more than three-year old violence seems to have subsided to some extent and called upon all the communities to forget the bitter incidents of the last three years and work collectively to bring the State on the path of development.

If the communities continue to harbour hatred and animosity toward each other, Manipur will never be able to take the path of development, he said .

Assuring that the Government will deliver justice to all acts of violence, the Chief Minister stated that the Government has been working hard to restore mutual trust among the different communities of the State.

He said that the country's youth have a big role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making a leading country in the world by 2047 .

It is the youth who would determine the destiny of the country and they must stay away from intoxicating substances, Khemchand said.

Manipur ought to act in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The railway project has been making rapid progress and the project has been already completed up to Khongsang.

Now several goods are being transported up to Khongsang by train, he said.

Khemchand said that a target has been already set for the railway network to reach Imphal by December 2028.From Imphal, the railway network will be extended to Moreh and then to Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia and this will connect the State with South East Asian countries, he said.

Saying that Manipur is the gateway to South East Asia, the Chief Minister underscored the need for youth to stay away from drugs and other intoxicating substances.

There are certain elements which have been scheming to devastate Manipuri society.

Such diabolic schemes must be checked collectively, he said.

The programme was jointly organised by Manipur University's NSS Cell and the State NSS Cell under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof RK Hemakumar, Registrar Prof M Premjit and the university's NSS Cell Programme Coordinator Prof L Santosh too attended the programme as presidium members.

As a part of the programme, many youth interacted with the Prime Minister virtually and the gathering took a pledge collectively for a drug-free India.
