Imphal, August 07 2026:
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, has appealed for the immediate restoration of free movement across the State and the lifting of the ongoing economic blockade and counter-blockade in the hill districts, stating that the situation has caused severe hardship to the people.
In a press release issued today, FOCS said the prolonged disruption of the movement of people, vehicles and essential commodities has adversely affected normal life across Manipur.
It noted that shortages of medicines, fuel, educational materials and other daily necessities have placed an unbearable burden on the public, while the prices of essential goods continue to rise.
The Organisation stated that patients are facing difficulties in accessing timely medical treatment due to shortages of medicines and restricted access to healthcare facilities.
FOCS said that students, farmers, small traders, daily wage earners, transporters and ordinary citizens have also been severely affected by the situation.
Stating that Manipur is home to more than 30 lakh people from diverse communities, FOCS said every citizen has the right to live in peace and enjoy free, safe and unhindered movement throughout the State.
FOCS urged all organisations concerned, community leaders and stakeholders to lift the economic blockade and counter-blockade and ensure the free and safe passage of people, vehicles, relief materials and essential commodities on every National Highway in Manipur, irrespective of community or region.
The Organisation also called on the Government to provide timely justice to all victims of the crisis in Manipur, irrespective of community, and to take legal action against those responsible.
Appealing for peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding, FOCS urged all stakeholders to reject actions that cause suffering to innocent people and work together to restore peace, normalcy, justice and lasting harmony in Manipur.
