Imphal, August 03 2026: People genuinely wish to coexist in harmony, and the Government is making sincere efforts to restore lasting peace, said Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today.

Ordinary citizens who have no interest in conflict desire only peace and normalcy, he added.

The Chief Minister said this at a ceremony held to launch "10 Crore Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign" under the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN (Spiritual Partnership Against Narcotic Drug Abuse) at Pheidinga, Imphal.

The event was organised by the Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in collaboration with its Medical Wing (Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation) .

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned Viksit Bharat 2047 with the goal of making India one of the most developed Nations in the world, and this vision can only be realised if the country's youth remain free from the menace of drugs.

He noted that the Nationwide drug-free campaign commenced yesterday across the country and Manipur is proud to be part of this National movement.

Speaking on the law and order situation in the State, the Chief Minister said, "Although Manipur continues to face multiple challenges, the Government and the people are making sincere efforts to restore lasting peace, and encouraging signs of improvement are now visible" .

He said that every ordinary citizen who has no interest in conflict desires only peace and normalcy.

Sharing his personal experiences from visits to different parts of the State, the Chief Minister recalled travelling through areas such as Litan even during difficult times.

He narrated how internally displaced persons from different communities, including Kuki, Meitei, Hmar and Paite, consistently conveyed the same aspiration-to return to their homes and live together in peace.

He said that during one of his visits to Jiribam, members of different communities sat together and shared a meal, demonstrating that people genuinely wish to coexist in harmony.

The Chief Minister, however, expressed concern that acts of violence have repeatedly undermined efforts towards reconciliation.

Referring to incidents that disrupted the peace process, he said such acts benefit only those who seek to profit from conflict.

He asserted that these individuals do not represent any particular community but are driven by vested interests that oppose the restoration of peace.

Reiterating the Government's commitment, the Chief Minister said that restoring peace remains the Government's foremost priority and there will be no compromise in ensuring justice and taking action against those responsible for crimes.

He appealed to every citizen to cooperate with the Government in rebuilding trust, restoring harmony and creating a peaceful environment essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 .

During the programme, the Chief Minister presented the Universal Peace Ambassador Award to Rajyogini BK Nilima, in-charge, Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in recognition of her contributions towards spiritual service and social welfare.

He also launched the campaign voucher as part of the inaugural function.

A pledge for a drug-free India was also administered during the programme, reaffirming the commitment of participants to stay away from intoxicants and spread awareness against substance abuse.

Later, on Facebook, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand wrote that "the campaign reflects our collective resolve to inspire 10 crore citizens to say "No to Drugs" and build a healthier, stronger, and addiction-free India by 2047 .

I commend the dedicated efforts of the Brahma Kumaris for spearheading this noble initiative and bringing together government institutions, healthcare professionals, educational establishments, law enforcement agencies, and civil society in this shared mission.

"An addiction-free society can only be achieved through collective responsibility and active public participation.

Let us work together to protect our youth, strengthen our communities, and build a Nasha Mukta Manipur that contributes to the vision of a Viksit Bharat" .
