Imphal, January 21 2023:
As part of its 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamsi' academic campaign, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has been providing "Free Special Class" to poor vulnerable students.
In addition, the Federation has been conducting mock tests to help students improve their calibre, MSF general secretary Tekcham Rojit Singh has stated.
Addressing a press meet at MSF office, Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, here, on Saturday, Rojit raised a poser whether the set of norms and standards formulated by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) under Commission for Protection of Child Right Act 2005 (CPCR) are being effectively implemented or not.
He observed that when the Class X and XII examinations draw near, teachers of private schools set up coaching centre/boarding at their residences, manipulate the students into staying at the boarding with promises of making them pass the examinations or providing them with questions and collect large amount of non-structured fees from the students.
This booming 'business', however, ignores the poor students, he observed and urged the state government to take serious note of such boardings which are violating the guidelines, including not having separate boys' and girls' hostels, lacking physical infrastructure and other amenities.
Informing that MSF will be inspecting such hostels and boarding, the general secretary lamented over the government's lackadaisical attitude towards such illegal hostels and boarding and appealed to the government to make its stand on the matter clear to the people.
