Thoubal, January 21 2023:
Saying that seizure of drugs from security personnel contradicts the very purpose of War on Drugs, the Thoubal District Congress Committee (TDCC) has urged the State Government to hand over the recent Pallel (Kuraopokpi) drug case of January 16 last to the CBI.
Today, the committee staged a sit-in protest at its office at Wangbal and demanded a CBI enquiry into the case.
The drug (heroin and WY tablets) was reportedly brought by the police personnel in a Maruti Gypsy coming from Moreh side.
By the sideline of the demonstration, TDCC president N Lukhoi said that the drug issue in Manipur has become more sensitive over the couple of years and it would ruin the lives of future generations, if not resolved urgently.
Saying that law enforcers found transporting contraband drugs is very disturbing and it not a good sign for the society, Lukhoi continued that the seizure of drugs from security personnel contradicts the core purpose of War on Drugs campaign 'as it is them who are to execute the works on ground' .
He further urged the State Government to hand over the case to CBI.
After the sit-in, the Congress workers took out a rally along National Highway-102 and also formed a human chain demanding resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on moral ground.
