AMWJU founder K Madhumangol passes away

Veteran journalist and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) founder member Kangujam Madhumangol passed away at his Kakwa Lamdaibung residence in Imphal East district on Friday.
He was 79.In a release, AMWJU publicity secretary Priyo Achom stated that a joint condolence meeting of AMWJU and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) was held at Manipur Press Club on Saturday.
Madhumangol was born on April 28, 1944 to K Goura Singh and Ibemcha Devi.
He first started his professional life as assistant teacher at Phayeng High School (1964-1968) and then joined Prajatantra daily, where he worked as a reporter (1969-1974) and later as editor (1974-2002) .
He was also a stringer for United News of India, Imphal Bureau (1999-2002) and then news editor of ISTV Network, Imphal (2002-2007) .
He was also a founder member and president of AMWJU, it added.
The release continued that Madhumangol was also prolific writer with his drama 'Head Master' (1969) winning the first prize in Neo-Literate Book Competition conducted by Education Department, Manipur.
His other books include 'Wahangdi Leirey Paokhumdi Leitri' (1997), 'Manipur Etihashki Tangkak Amada RK Maipaksana' (2009), 'Ngallingei Manipuri Journalism Amasung GC Tongbra' (2010) and 'Oja Chingakham Pishak' (2013).During his lifetime, he received several awards including Oja Indramani Memorial Journalist Award, 2004; NETV People's Choice Award, 2005; Epu Moirang Lala Hanba Award, 2008; Certificate of Honour by Vishwa Samvad Kendra, 2013; Manipur State Kala Akademi Award, 2014; and Thiyam Premkumar Award, 2019, it mentioned.
AMWJU further conveyed that the condolence meeting which was presided by its president Wangkhemcha Shamjai and attended by numerous members of the Union was marked by observance of a two-minute silence in memory of the departed soul and prayer for his soul to rest in peace.
The Union also shared the grief of the bereaved family.
All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU) also condoled the demise of K Madhumangol and convened and an emergency condolence meeting on Saturday.
The meeting observed a two-minute's silence and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace along with sharing the grief of the bereaved family, the Union informed in a release.
