Imphal, January 21 2023:
Condemning the alleged demand for paying tax money by new residents of the newly named Vaiphei Veng from indigenes of Lamlongei, Federation of Haomee (FoH) has said that such illegal collection is akin to the dove over the magpie's nest.
The Federation also affirmed to serious look into the matter of trying to include the people of Lamlongei under Vaiphei Veng.
In a release, FoH vice president Dr K Heera Kabui said that the government should evict the illegal construction of houses on farm lands by some Vaipheis violating Manipur Conservation of Paddy land and Wetland Act, 2014 .
The government should not turn a blind eye to the construction of houses on paddy fields in Heingang and Wangkhei ACs.
While stating that Lamlongei village has been there since time immemorial and trying to destroy and di vide the village by the new settlers is an affront to the indigenous people, Heera observed that many untoward incidents will occur if the government fails to stop the mushrooming of Veng/ Villa in the valley.
He also questioned the authority who approved setting up of Vaiphei Veng.
It is not the right of Vaiphei to collect tax sum of Rs 5,000 from newly constructed house, Rs 500 as registration fee and Rs 300 as rent fee from the indigenous people of Lamlongei, he asserted and warned against renaming the old villages by the new settlers.
There is no surety that the case of Lamlongei might not occur in other areas of the state, he observed and urged the people not to sell their land to outsiders and to rebuy it if it had been sold.
