Madhumangol expires, AMWJU condoles

Founder member of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and veteran journalist Kangujam Madhumangol breathed his last at his residence at Kakwa Lamdaibung on Friday following a prolonged illness.
He was 79.The veteran journalist who is survived by his wife Kangujam Manitombi, one son and two daughters was bedridden for a while and he was admitted to hospital on January 9 last.
He expired at around 11.15 pm yesterday.
Born on April 28, 1944, K Madhumangol worked as an assistant teacher at Phayeng High School from 1964-1968, stringer of UNI, Imphal Bureau (1999-2002) and as Editor of Prajatantra daily and ISTV for some years.
He joined Prajatantra as a reporter.
Also a former president of AMWJU, K Madhumangol penned a handful of books such as Wahangdi Leire Paokhumdi Leitri, Manipurgee Itihaski Tang-kak Amada RK Maipaksana,Ngallingei Manipur Journalism Amashung GC Tongbra, Oja Chingakham Pishakand Headmaster (drama), to name a few.
The veteran journalist won the Neo-Literate Book Competition of the Education Department for his book Headmaster.
Some accolades won by Madhumangol include Oja Indramani Memorial Journalist Award 2004, NETV People's Choice Award 2005, Epu Moirang Lala Hanba Award 2008, Certificate of Honour by Vishwa Samvad Kendra 2013, Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2014, Thiyam Premkumar Award 2019 etc.
A press release issued by AMWJU said that a condolence meeting was held in the presence of their members and Editors Guild Manipur.
(EGM) members at Manipur Press Club in honour of the late journalist and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
The meeting was presided by AMWJU president W Shamjai.
