Imphal, January 21 2023:
The Federation of Haomee has taken serious note of the alleged establishment of a new settlement at Lamlongei, Mantripukhri and erection of 'illegal' structures in a paddy field of the locality.
A press release issued by the federation claimed that some people have erected illegal structures in a paddy field at Lamlongei while others have established a new settlement at the locality against the interest of the local populace.
Urging the Government to evict the structures erected at the area against the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014, the federation said that the Government shouldn't turn a blind eye to the erection of illegal structures in the heart of Imphal city under Heigang and Wangkhei Constituencies.
It further claimed that establishment of a new village by 'newcomers' is a plan to abolish Lamlongei which is home to many indigenous people.
"If the authorities concerned don't take the establishments of Vengs/Villas seriously and take up necessary action, many untoward incidents might surface in future, " the federation cautioned.
Asking who gave the permit to set up the new establishment, it claimed that the Vaiphei authority doesn't have the authority to take fees for building houses and annual house registration and rent fees.
The federation also said they will not allow changing of a locality's name by new settlers and urged all to stop selling lands to non-locals.
