Imphal, December 15 2021:
Five leaders of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF)/People's Liberation Army (PLA) were brought to Imphal from Myanmar on Wednesday via an aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
According to a report, the five RPF leaders had been sick for a long time and as such, had visited a Myanmar hospital for treatment in 2019 .
However, they were arrested by Myanmar authority on their way back from the hospital.
The five leaders, identified as Th Kalasana alias Koireng, Nongmaithem Narendra alias Banner, Taorem Rohen alias Angam, Loitongbam Rajkumar alias Abi and Salam Somendro alias Deban were flown in to Imphal Airport around 11 am on Wednesday.
Immediately upon their arrival, all five of them were loaded into a prisoner van by a team of Manipur Police and taken away for further course of legal action, the report conveyed.
Police are yet to confirm whether these rebels were involved in any incident.
Sources said that the five RPF cadres were provided medical treatment in a Myanmar hospital for some ailments after they were nabbed by the Myanmar military at Monywa in Sagaing region of north-western Myanmar in August last year.
On November 13, in a deadliest joint terror attack by the PLA and the Manipur Naga People's Front, Colonel Viplav Tripathi and four personnel of the Assam Rifles were gunned down in Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar.
Colonel Tripathi's wife and 9-year-old son were also killed in the attack.
