Mortal remains reach Senapati

Senapati, August 28 2026: The mortal remains of four victims of the recent violence at Makui Ashang in Kangpokpi district were brought to Senapati District Hospital on Friday after being stopped at Waichong, a Kuki village, where their passage was reportedly not allowed since Thursday evening.

The bodies were allowed to proceed on Friday morning under CRPF escort only after intervention of the kangpokpi SP .

The mortal remains were first received by civil society organisations (CSOs) of Senapati at Thonglang Atongba village, a Liangmai village, at around 8:30 am.

The village authority presented four shawls to the deceased.

The bodies subsequently arrived at Senapati District Hospital at around 10:30 am, where post-mortem examinations were conducted.

A large number of people gathered along the route and paid respects to the deceased.

Many family members reportedly fainted upon receiving the mortal remains and were placed on IV drips at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Gaikamang Ringkangmai, 44, who sustained a grievous injury on his left forearm, is undergoing treatment at Senapati District Hospital.

Gaikamang Ringkangmai said that six of them travelled from Makui to Senapati.

Gaikamang said he could see the Kuki militants in full military uniform with automatic rifles tied with red ribbons on the tips of the barrels, and opening fire indiscriminately from multiple directions.

Some of them were stated to have long hair who fired at them indiscriminately from different directions.

After being shot on his left forearm, the injured stated that.

The survivor said he ran down the road but the militants shot at him as he ran away from them.

The Kuki militants, after killing the Naga civilians, pushed the Bolero camper into a deep gorge.

Ahjapou MK, Secretary, Ahangruak Chief Chairmen's Association, who miraculously escaped the attack unhurt said that he bent down under the dashboard of the vehicle after the first bullet was fired and this saved him.

Amid the indiscriminate firing, he saw the driver and Wisobou Charenamai, the chairman of Chawangkining motionless.

In the next moment, Ahjapou jumped down and hid under the bushes.

Saying that he has been working in the Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati since 3-4 years and other NGOs, the young man dismissed the allegations made by the Kukis that he is a member of the NSCN-IM and ZUF-K as baseless.

Later in the afternoon, the four dead bodies were brought to the multi-storeyed parking lot, Senapati after the post mortem.

The bodies will be sent back to Chawangkining Liangmai village where all the four bodies will be buried together at the same place.
