Imphal, August 27 2026: Chief Minister Y Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and former Chief Minister N Biren have condemned the attack on innocent Naga civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi which claimed four lives today.

Following the deadly ambush, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level security meeting at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, Imphal, this evening.

The meeting discussed in detail today's unfortunate incident along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, in which four innocent civilians were gunned down mercilessly.

The Government condemned the incident in the strongest terms, said a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Secretariat.

It also said that the Chief Minister instructed the security officials to nab and initiate action against the perpetrators of the crime.

Further, the meeting decided to take stringent action against any individual, irrespective of community, found in possession of illegal arms and weapons.

Additionally, the meeting also decided that cadres of outfits under the SoO or peace talks with the Government carrying weapons beyond their designated camps would be dealt seriously and face action.

Taking to the social media, the Chief Minister wrote, 'I condemn the incident in the strongest terms.

I have instructed the security officials to nab and initiate action against the perpetrators of the crime' .

The Chief Minister also recalled the 15-days ultimatum given on August 12 last asking individuals possessing any type of illegal weapons to surrender them.

Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho has also condemned in the strongest possible terms the heinous and barbaric attack on innocent Naga civilians allegedly by armed Kuki militants today between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga along the IT Road in Kangpokpi District.

Expressing deep pain and distress over the tragic incident, the Deputy Chief Minister said that these acts of violence pose a grave threat to the ongoing efforts towards peace, normalcy and progress in the State.

He described the incident as a direct assault on the security and dignity of the people.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated every innocent life lost to such senseless violence is a profound tragedy that 'affects us all.' He assured that all necessary support and assistance would be extended to those injured and to the affected families.

Dikho also conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in the tragic incident, stating that he shares their grief and stands firmly with them during this difficult hour.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam also extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

Saying that the senseless violence has caused deep anguish among the Naga community and peace loving people of Manipur, he added that those responsible will face the full force of the law.

Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, on the other hand, asked how many more innocent lives must be lost before decisive action is taken, he added that those who don't want peace to prevail are still out in the open, armed and emboldened.

He said that the perpetrators must be arrested and brought to justice.

The People's Democratic Alliance also condemned the attack.

The Chandel Naga People Organisation and Thadou Inpi, Manipur too have strongly condemned the killings.

The high-level security meeting was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel; Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh; DGP Mukesh Singh; Joint Secretary (NE) of Ministry of Home Affairs; ADGP (Intelligence/L&O); State Home Commissioner; IG CRPF; IG Assam Rifles (East); IG Assam Rifles (South); Deputy GOC 57 Mountain Division; Joint Director SIB; and senior officers of BSF and SSB and other Government security agencies.
