Imphal, December 15 2021:
Students of GP Women's College, which is under Dhanamanjuri University, on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest in front the college's A-block denouncing the scrapping of PG courses for academic session 2021-22 .
Students held placards inscribed with "Don't remove PG courses from GP College", "Save the women college", "Dissociate GP College from DM University if PG courses are to be removed" and "Issue admission notice for PG courses immediately" during the protest.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, GP Women's College games and sports secretary Langlen Mayanglambam pointed out that after the amalgamation of GP Women's College as one of the higher institutes under the Dhanamanjuri University, all PG courses except Home Science have been annulled for the academic session 2021-2022, she pointed out.
The discontinuation of PG courses which were there when the college was under Manipur University is neither justifiable nor will be tolerated, Langlen said, while demanding not to pursue any policy which will hinder the development of the women's college.
A memorandum was submitted to DM University vice chancellor for reopening of MA/MSc courses in GP Women's College on September 23.Unfortunately, no positive response was given till now and as such the protest was launched, she explained.
Keep GP Women's College under Manipur University instead of DM University if authorities concerned could not issue the order for resumption of PG courses, she demanded.
While contending that alleged use of abusive languages by the DMU registrar showed that he is incompetent, she also demanded to replace the registrar of the university at the earliest.
