UCM organises labour awareness prog

A one-day awareness programme on rights of labourers was organised by United Committee Manipur (UCM) at its head office on Sunday.
In a re/lease, IPR secretary Leisemba Lamaba informed that UCM consultative member H Ibotombi Khuman, president Joychandra Konthoujam and special contractor Kh Torjit attended the programme as presidium members while Labour inspectors Konthoujam Tiken and Laishram Premkumar were the resource persons.
In his address, Joychandra Konthoujam asserted that UCM will always stand for the rights of labourers.
The government sponsored schemes for the welfare must benefit the labourers and snatching their rights must be stopped at any cost, he said and exhorted the labourers to strive for creating work culture among the indigenous people so as to prevent outsiders from dominating the state's economic sector.
On the other hand, a farmers' training programme cum oath taking and charge handing over ceremony of Tokpaching UCM Unit was held at Tokpaching on Saturday.
Senior citizens Y Ibomcha Singh, N Beni Devi and UCM president Joychandra attended the programme as presidium members.
As a part of the event, retired agriculture officer L Sanatomba, extension officer Kh Nimaichand and Chak-hao Poreiton Organic Producer Company Ltd chairman Ch Santa delivered speeches on different topics as resource persons.
UCM also distributed 10 bags of calcium granules free of cost to the farmers.
The UCM president administered the oath to the newly elected officer bearers of Tokpaching unit.
N Doren-dra and H Lokendro were also appointed as chairman and general secretary respectively of the unit.
