Explosion rocks Ukhrul ahead of election

Ukhrul, February 13 2022:
One powerful IED exploded inside the campus of Ukhrul Divisional Forest office complex located at Phungreitang, Ukhrul on Saturday at around 8.30 pm.
According to sources, the impact of the explosion created a crater of about 1 feet in diameter and damaged some properties.
It might be mentioned that the Election observer both police and expenditure observer, were stationed at the Forest guest house.
The Ukhrul police informed that one vehicle was seen passing from the eastern side of the office campus in a CCTv footage just before the explosion.
Subsequent to the explosion, a team of Ukhrul police led by Addl SP (Ops) Samir and SI Marchang rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
The Ukhrul police have sealed the whole campus and deployed security in all four corners for the safety of election observers, staff and the residents of the area.
A suo moto case has also been registered at Ukhrul Police Station.
According to our correspondent, a report of some arm groups holding a discreet meeting somewhere in Namlee village at Kamjong bordering Myanmar was doing the rounds on social media.
The meeting allegedly resolved to counter the involvement of NSCN-IM in election and disrupt agents campaigning for any political candidates supported by NSCN-IM particularly Naga People's Front (NPF) within the jurisdiction of 43-Phungyar, 44-Ukhrul and 45-Chingai in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
The source also mentioned that a consignment of IEDs, grenades and pistols have been shipped to Ukhrul via Namlee -Phungyar for enhancement of the mission.
Meanwhile Tangkhul CSOs composed of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), TSL, TNWL, TKS, TMNL vehemently condemned the attack.
A team of CSOs led by TNL president David K' Shimray also visited the site of the explosion.
