Imphal, February 13 2022:
Meetei Tribe Union (MTU) secretary administration & organisation Mutum Churamani has informed that the union has submitted its recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in Scheduled Tribe (ST) list to the chief minister, secretary to CM, tribal affairs department, chief secretary, TRI, Governor and Lok Sabha MP RK Ranjan.
Informing this at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, Churamani said that the union has been collecting documentations required for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list of Constitution of India.
The community has been living as ST but some leaders converted into general category in the past.
However, the union has always been in favour of Meetei being recognised as ST community.
The demand is legitimate as the community is simply asking to put it where it belongs, he said.
The Central government had sought recommendations from the state government in this regard and the union gathered all the necessary documents for preparing the recommendation and submit the same to the state government.
The recommendation submitted by the union include several documents including socio-economic condition, ethnography reports, etc.
The recommendation copies were submitted to the CM and secretary to CM on January 14, union MoS for education RK Ranjan on January 17, tribal affairs department on January 18, chief secretary on February 11 and TRI & Governor on February 12, he said.
