Poll violence: Sit-in staged against attack on candidate's wife

Denouncing the alleged attack by BJP workers on a group of people including wife of Urikhinbam Ramesh, NPP candidate from Mayang Imphal AC, sit-in protests were staged yesterday at several places including Sekmaijin, Laphupat Tera, Uchiwa, Mayang Imphal Bengoon, Mayang Imphal Anilongbi, Khordak and Phabakchao.
Placards with the slogans, "We condemn life attempt on Neera", "We want peaceful election in Mayang Imphal AC", "we condemn gun culture", etc were extensively used at the protests.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons at the residence of U Ramesh in Sekmaijin on Friday, Urikhinbam Neera, wife of Ramesh stated that BJP workers who came in two Gypsy vehicles allegedly halted them when she was preparing to return after visiting a relative's house in Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai.

She alleged the BJP workers of assaulting her relatives, pelting stones and firing several rounds at the house.
She also appreciated the Mayang Imphal police team for their timely intervention.
Expressing her anguish over the tragic incident and the increasing trend of poll related violence in the state, Neera further appealed to the Election Commission of India to look into the matter at the earliest and ensure free and fair conduct of election in Mayang Imphal AC.
