Thoubal, February 13 2022:
Stating that violence has no place in a democracy, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has accused the BJP Government of being the root of poll-related violence even in the past, let alone the present.
Okram Ibobi made the statement during the flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate and former Minister of Heirok AC, Moirangthem Okendro held at his residence in Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the ceremony , O Ibobi further accused the incumbent BJP MLA of Heirok AC of causing unfortunate incidents in the constituency instead of bringing any progressive changes across the constituencies.

Further, he recalled the developmental works taken up in the AC in the past by the Congress Government including the establishment of two police stations among others.
He alleged that Heirok used to be at the forefront in all developmental aspects but Narendra Modi's double engine BJP Government has dragged the AC backwards for the last 5 years instead of giving it the much needed push forward.
Stating that guns and muscle power have no place in a democracy, O Ibobi mentioned that the people's vote has more power to bring change than bullets in a gun.
Moirangthem Okendro stated that Heirok AC has been tagged as being dangerous and backward when it once used to be an exemplary assembly constituency.
"The only way to bring about a change is to ensure that Congress emerges victorious in the ensuing State Assembly election or else the lost glory of Heirok will never be revived", he added.
The flag hoisting ceremony was also attended by Bhakta Charandas, in-charge AICC Manipur; MLA K Ranjit of Sugnu AC; MLA Noorul Hooda from Assam, president of District Congress Committee Thoubal and Block Congress Committee Heirok and several other important members.
