Imphal, February 13 2022:
As a part of Government of India's initiative to make the country pollution free, vehicles in the State have started using ethanol blended petrol.
As of now a 10 percent ethanol part per volume of petrol is being used which is the next step after utilization of vehicles with Bharat Stage I-VI .
The Government of India is giving aid to people in establishing biogas plants for production of complex biogas under Sustainable Alternatives Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) .
The utilization of ethanol blended petrol in vehicles was kicked off in 2003 in nine States and 4 UTs and was expanded to all States and UTs except Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands in 2019 .
The Government is planning to achieve the use of 20 percent ethanol part per volume of petrol by 2030 .
An official of IOC posted at Oil Depot at Malom said the used of ethanol blended petrol has started in the state during the last couple of days but as there is no biogas production plant in the state, ethanol blended petrol are being brought in from outside the state.
If the daily petrol usage of the state is 200 KL, there is a need for 2KL of ethanol, he added.
However there is also a catch to the use of ethanol blended petrol as it needs the petrol tank of the particular vehicle to be completely free of any water content.
