IEDUCO celebrates 17th foundation day

Imphal East District United Clubs' Organisation (IEDUCO) celebrated its 17th foundation day at Puri Puraba community hall, Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai on Sunday.
Speaking as chief guest of the celebration, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang cautioned that there could be more than meets the eye behind mass poppy plantations in the hills as is evident from tension rising among different sections of the society amid certain elements unrelenting from scheming to disintegrate the unity and integrity of Manipur.
While pointing out that excessive use of chemical fertilisers in poppy cultivation will have adverse impact on the environment, the president urged the people to cultivate other crops other than poppy that could benefit every section and improve economy of the society.
Nando also exhorted the villagers to extend cooperation and support in the initiative being taken up against poppy cultivation.
Highlighting the need for reforestation in the hills and development of water bodies including wetlands, lakes and rivers in the valley for the restoration and protection of the environment, he continued that AMUCO is against new structural constructions on agricultural lands.
Citing frequently in occurrences of devastating floods in the state, he also stressed the need to keep the rivers and other water bodies neat and clean.
Presided oyer by IEDUCO president Dwijo Takhellambam, the foundation day celebration was also attended by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Longjam Memchoubi, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani and Peaceful Club, Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai president Laishram Mangalsana Meitei as guests of honour.
Simple gifts were also presented to the families of the deceased members of the club as a part of the event.
