Keba lauds Maichou Thoukachanpa's efforts to preserve, safeguard Meitei Mayek

Stating there are not many communities who have their own scripts in the North East, Sapam Kunjakeswor, MLA, Patsoi Constituency has stated that one must have pride over their unique script and language.
The MLA was speaking at a function commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Maichou Thoukachanpa and unveiling of a sculpture of the Maichou held at Sagolband, Kuraomakhong United Club.
The event was jointly organised by Maichou Thoukachanpa Ningshing Thoushil Lup and Kuraomakhong United Club.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sapam Kunjakeswar stated that the Bengali script was imposed on the people during the reign of Meidingu Pamheiba.
However, due to the efforts of people like Maichou Thoukachanpa who sought to safeguard the Meitei Mayek script, people can now attain a Masters degree in Meitei Mayek, he said.
Calling Maichou Thoukachanpa a revivalist and pioneer of the script, he lauded him for keeping the script alive through concerted efforts.
It may be mentioned that the ceremony began with a 'penna yakairol', followed by the unveiling of the sculpture of Maichou Thoukachanpa at Kuraomakhong United Club and the offering of flowers.
Aside from this, prizes were distributed to six students who secured the highest marks in Meitei Mayek (MIL) subject at the Class XII Examination conducted by COHSEM.
