Imphal, January 22 2023:
RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand has conveyed that houses for homeless residents of hill districts will be constructed by June-July this year.
He further said that the initiative will be taken up under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana based on the 2016 Census report.
The Minister made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the 4-day 6th general conference of Maram Women Union (MWU) held at Willong Khullen in Senapati district, yesterday.
The general conference is being held under the theme "Moving forward together." At the function, Y Khemchand expressed his delight at attending the general conference of MWU.
Reiterating that houses for homeless people in hill districts will be constructed by June-July this year as per the wishes of the people, the Minister continued that the Centre has sanctioned construction of 1.5 lakh houses under the scheme of which 42 thousands have been approved and 16 thousand constructed.
The State Government has been striving to construct the houses though implementation of the scheme is little slow in Manipur, he added.
Saying that every eligible citizen can take the benefit of the scheme, the Minister appealed to village authorities and organisations to guide the Government in identifying the beneficiaries and implementing the scheme.
Y Khemchand went on to state that there is no separate fund to construct a market shed under RD & PR at Maram Khullen as requested by the locals.
He nonetheless said that he has consulted with the officials concerned to construct a Rural Haat instead under MGNREGA and it may be completed by March this year.
The inaugural function was also attended by former Deputy Speaker K Raina, former Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Managing Director of BIPL N Ibochou and different hill leaders.
Cultural items were also held as a part of the function.
Later, Y Khemchand also inspected the construction of a bailey bridge over Kadat River in between Senapati and Oklong village and blacktopping along the 21.50 km Willong Khunou to Chakha Part II road stretch.
