Imphal, January 22 2023:
Maintaining that there is no meaning and relevance of the Indian Republic Day to the people of Manipur, the United People's Revolutionary Front of Manipur (UPRFM) too has called a general strike all over the State from January 25 midnight till 6 pm of January 26.A press release issued by the outfit's information and publicity secretary L Rolin alias Thoupangba Meitei accused the Government of India of misinterpreting the meanings of democracy and republic, and consolidating colonial policies.
Manipur had enacted its own Constitution in 1947 whereas India adopted its Constitution only in 1950 .
There was already an elected Government in Manipur before India usurped its independence, it said.
Since becoming a part of India, the peoples of WESEA have been facing serious challenges to its identity, culture and territorial boundaries, it continued.
At the same time, the Government of India has been conspiring continuously to obliterate the identity of Kanglei people by mixing up their art, culture, history and traditional values with the Hindutva ideology, it alleged.
Leaders of the Government of India and the alleged puppet State Government have been trying to influence the minds of the common people by claiming that the Kanglei people are descendents of some heroes of the Mahabharat, the UPRFM remarked.
The Government of India fully understands that Kangleipak cannot be kept under their occupation for good until and unless the unique art, culture, history and traditional values of the occupied people are destroyed completely.
As such, it is an unavoidable duty of the Government of India to destroy the unique identity and National character of Kangleipak, it alleged.
It said that the people of Manipur/Kangleipak have nothing to expect from the high profile visits of top Indian leaders to the State.
The Republic Day of India only reminds the people of Manipur that they are living under an alien, oppressive regime, it alleged.
It added that the general strike would not cover emergency services, religious functions and media.
