SSUM launches Irabot month, demands adequate teacher

Demanding the state government to depute teachers for filling up the vacant posts at Sagolmang Higher Secondary School within five days, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has warned of launching agitation if the demand is not honoured within the deadline.
SSUM launched Lamyanba Hijam Irabot memorial month observance by offering floral tributes to the statue of Hijam Irabot at Shanti Bazar, Leimaram on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, SSUM president S Yaima informed that they are organising the month-long observance to disseminate the ideology of the late leader and to remind the younger generations about the contribution of Irabot to the Manipuri society.
Recently, SSUM carried out inspection drives at different government schools and found several shortcomings.
For instance, Sagolmang Higher Secondary School is facing a serious shortage of teaching staff, he said and demanded the government to fill in the vacant teachers within five days.
Pointing out that around 7000 posts of teachers are lying vacant under the education department, he demanded the government to carry out recruitment drives to fill up the vacancies at the earliest.
Regarding the month-long observance, Yaima said that the union will make donations to children's homes and old age homes, and organise the 1st Bishnupur District Open Painting Competition on the theme 'Irabot and his socialism' at the premises of Rising Club, Ngaikhong Khullen on September 10 followed by the closing ceremony at THAU Ground on September 30 along with the 6th state level march pass competition for students.
