Imphal, September 01 2022:
Moirangpurel High School, a school where the ambitious School Fagathansi Mission of Chief Minister N Biren was launched is reeling under acute shortage of teaching staff despite high rate of enrolment.
Reportedly, there is a huge gap of students-faculty ratio at the school as it only has eight teachers as compared to nearly 700 students.
This shortage of teachers came to light after the students of Moirangpurel High School began protesting at the veranda of the school with demands such as "send adequate number of teachers", "save our lives" etc, today.
It is reported that the School Fagathansi Mission was inaugurated at Moirangpurel High School by Chief Minister N Biren Singh in his previous term on January 18, 2020 .

Speaking to media persons, Headmaster of the school Ksh Johnson said that Moirangpurel High School offers both primary and high school level in one campus.
Stating that the primary section has about 200 students while the high school section has about 500, Johnson said that the primary section doesn't have any teacher including the Head Master while the high school has eight teachers including himself.
He further stated that the school is unable to run properly as one RMSA and four SSA teachers have taken part in the mass casual leave protest of a particular teachers' association.
Saying that the ZEO concerned had directed him to look after the primary section when even running the high school is difficult, the Headmaster said that the Government is not sending the required teachers till date despite repeated appeals.
He then urged the Government to consider sending some teachers to the school in the interest of the students.
Volunteers of DESAM also came to the school to take stock of the situation.
Speaking to media persons, DESAM secretary general Somorjit Luwang said that Moirangpurel High School reeling under acute shortage of teaching staff is very unfortunate as the School Fagathasni Mission was launched at this school with a vision to provide quality education to the students of Government schools.
Saying that he has come across news of 43 teachers being posted at Thamchet High School in Nongmeibung which has about 140 students, Somorjit claimed that the Government seems to be not taking the education sector seriously.
The Chief Minister and Education Minister must respond to the demand of these hundreds of students, he said and urged the Government to send adequate number of teachers to the school at the earliest.
The protesting students of the school said that their protest demonstration will continue for another two days and they may even surrender their school books to the Government if no positive response is forthcoming from the Government.
