Imphal, September 01 2022:
MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand has appealed to all to adhere to the relevant building byelaws while constructing houses and structures.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-days "Hand Holding Workshop for Architects on Online Building Permission System (OBPS) under E-Municipality as a service, E-Mass of AMRUT" which began today at City Convention Centre, Imphal.
Pointing out that adhering to the building byelaws has become an urgent need in the State, Khemchand said that many houses and structures in Imphal City and municipal areas which were built by defying the building bye-laws have created many problems.
He added that the wrongful ways of constructing buildings is one of the major factors for the blockage and failure of drainage systems in municipality areas.
Noting that very few people in the State seek permission from the authorities concerned in constructing buildings, the Minister underscored the importance of strengthening the mechanism to react and respond to cases of defiance of building bye-laws.
He further opined that maintaining a strict regulation on building structures will help in solving the inconveniences created to the public by improper construction of private buildings and structures close to public roads and public places in the State.
While asking the architects to participate in the workshop to discuss at length about the application of architecture to ensure that the urban areas have a well planned future, Khemchand also appealed to the architects to find out the ways to save the paddy lands in the Greater Imphal area in the long run.
He went on to assure that he will provide financial assistance to the Manipur Architects' Forum through AMRUT scheme.
PDA Chairman MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, AMRUT, Town Planning Department, State Mission Director N Benju Singh, Manipur Architects' Forum president Aribam Joychandra Sharma, Associate Town & Country Planner, TCPO Sudeep Roy, NIC, Meghalaya Scientist Gulrez Sohllya and Commissioner (MAHUD) M Joy Singh also attended the function as guests of honour and president respectively.
