Imphal, September 01 2022:
A combined team of police and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) today seized brown sugar and WY tablets worth around Rs 8 lakh from Thangmeiband area today.
Speaking to media persons at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of BJP, BJYM State president M Barish said that the drive carried out with the help of police since last night was a big success.
He said that the drive out was carried out after investigation for three days.
Barish said that BJYM carried out the drive as a part of the Chief Minister N Biren's War on Drugs and in view of the rising cases of selling and abusing drugs in different parts of the State.
He said that the drive was carried out together with an Additional SP of Imphal West district police and personnel of Imphal police station after due information was given to the Imphal West SP.
Starting from 5 pm yesterday, volunteers of BJYM mounted a strict vigil at some areas of Thangmeiband.
Later, at around 12.30 am today, the volunteers searched some households of three localities (Leikais) and they managed to seize drugs worth around Rs 8 lakh, Barish said.
He said that they succeeded in busting the drug dens because of the unstinted cooperation extended by the local people.
The BJYM State president said that they would carry on similar drives as a part of the War on Drugs under the aegis of the SPs concerned.
He also appealed to all drug smugglers not to push youngsters into the jaws of death in pursuit of self aggrandisement.
Police alone cannot check the drug menace until and unless local clubs and youth launch a strong movement against drugs, he said.
He then called upon all the youth to join hands and launch a strong movement against the drug menace starting from local level.
