Bishnupur, July 19 2022:
Jadumani, vice-president, Moirang Kendra Farmers Development Co-operative Society has demanded the relevant authority to provide supply of fertilizers and water before July 24, failing which widespread agitation will be launched across Bishnupur district by July 25 .
The demand was made by N Jadumani during a meeting held at Khoyol Keithel in Moirang Lamkhai organised by Moirang Kendra Farmers Development Co-operative Society today.
Alongside the demand for urea and water supply, the meeting also urged the Government to upgrade the Moirang low canal and high canal as well as the Imphal low and high canal constructed under Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) .
N Jadumani stated that scarcity of water is beginning to pose a serious challenge to farmers of the region.
Despite assurances from relevant authorities of smooth water supply through Moirang low canal and high canal as well as the Imphal low and high canal, the same has yet to materialise, he said.
In view of these issues faced by farmers, if the problems of water supply and unavailability of urea are not addressed by July 24, then the farmer bodies of Kumbi, Thanga and Moirang will collectively launch several forms of agitation from July 25, N Jadumani asserted.
The meeting was attended by important officials of Moirang Kendra Farmers Development Cooperative Society; Kh Samushaba, Chairman, Kumbi Haotak Loukol society; S.Dinesh, president Kumbi Kendra Farmers Progressive Association; L Manglem, secretary Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumee Sinmee Lup and many representatives of farmers organisations.
During the course of the meeting, the gathering also shouted slogans such as "Provide urea on time", "Ensure adequate water supply to farmers" etc.
