Help offered to orphans of Noney tragedy

Imphal, July 19 2022:
An official team of District Child Protection Unit and Child Welfare Committee, Noney under the aegis of Social Welfare Department met three young children of a family whose parents were killed in the massive landslide that occurred on the intervening night of June 29 and 30 at Makhuam village near Tupul in Noney district.
The team visited the tragedy stricken family since the past few days and explained
to grandparents of the children about supportive scheme for orphaned children under Child Protection Scheme of the government.
The team also elaborated to the grandparents about the scheme's provision of sheltering orphaned children at homes run by the Social Welfare Department and free education till attainment of 18 years of age.
However, grandparents and relatives of the children are yet to decide on keeping the children at government run homes.
The children are aged 12, 10 and 8 years and both their parents died in the Makhuam landslide after they went to their farm.
The children survived as they stayed at home.
Mention may be made here that altogether 79 people were buried by the massive landslide, out of which18 were rescued alive, while bodies of five others are yet to be recovered.
