The All Manipur Students' Union has urged the State Government to fulfil its charter of demands submitted to the Education Minister on July 24, which include implementation of Manipur Private School Registration and Regulation Act, 2017 and introduction of a proper guideline to run private schools and boarding schools.
Addressing a press meet held today at DM College campus, Thangmeiband today, AMSU secretary general Bikramjit Thongam decried that the State Government is yet to fulfil its charter of demands which was placed in the interest of students' welfare.
Reminding that the student union has submitted a memorandum, comprising several points, he conveyed that the demands also include introduction of a State song upto high school level.
He maintained that the students union has been demanding a regular Registrar and Controller of Dhanamanjuri University to make the same live up to the status of a full-fledged university and to ensure a decent academic atmosphere, Bikramjit added that the other demands include filling up of the vacant posts of Principals and Headmasters in Government colleges and schools besides taking up measures to rationalize teacher-student proportions ratio, filling up of the vacant post of SCERT, Manipur Director and to replace bureaucrats who took charges of different posts in educational institutions which should be held by those from academic background.
The secretary general informed that the student union has also exerted strong pressure on the State Government for improving/ increasing the State run public transport system to address the problems of fare hike.
He went on to state that AMSU is ready to take on different democratic forms of agitation if the Government continues to sideline their demands.
