Kakching, July 19 2022:
Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching has written to agriculture minister Th Biswajit reminding him of their demand for making the District Agriculture Office (DAO), Kakching functional by July 21 .
In an ultimatum submitted to the agriculture minister, JNGVO president Ksh Biren Singh and secretary general N Bheigyachandra Singh stated that the organisation suspended its proposed total shutdown of Kakching district from July 9 after the government issued a press statement on July 8 assuring that the required urea fertiliser for Kakching district would be arranged with the opening of District Urea Distribution Cell at DAO.
The statement also mentioned that the construction of DAO at Kakching has already been completed and everything is set for its opening, it added.
JNGVO alleged that, in spite of the media publicity and public expectation, there is no Urea Distribution Cell at Kakching and the office of DAO has not yet been made functional and as such the cultivators in Kakching district have been rendered helpless in getting urea.
All such treatments pose a great threat to the hard labour of the farmers in Kakching district which is hailed as the 'Granary of Manipur' .
The neglected cultivators would have no other option than to come out openly demanding urea on the streets, it warned.
The organisation continued that in the light of the these facts and circumstances, the agriculture minister shall have to make DAO, Kakching functional for a transparent and proper distribution of urea latest by July 21, failing which it would resort to agitation.
