Imphal, April 25 2022:
CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that just as Chief Minister N Biren has vowed not to accept any bribes, he should formulate a policy to prevent any corrupt activities from being carried out.
Speaking on the sidelines of a sit-in protest organised by Manipur Loumi Lup against the rising prices of essential items at CPI complex, BT Road here on Monday, Sotinkumar noted with regret that while the salaries of MLAs have been increased, midday meal workers continued to receive a meagre sum as honorarium, which often times is also delayed for months making to it difficult to meet both ends.
Although the people are trying their best to live their life, increasing prices of essential items are adding to their burden.
All of these could lead to a huge movement some day, he cautioned.
Regarding the CM's announcement of not taking bribes, Sotinkumar suggested formulating a state-specific policy to prevent anyone from taking bribes.
Additionally, the MLAs should declare their assets and anti-corruption cells should be opened in all the departments, he demanded.
Sotinkumar then said that PM Modi's economic policy and 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' vision is only meant to fatten the pockets of corporate owners, while continuously robbing the people.
The rising fuel price has not only affected the general public but the farmers as well, while the rich continue to open new petrol pumps.
He also informed that farmers who came to attend the Monday's protest have to spend at least Rs 500 on travel expenses.
Thus, there is a need to formulate an alternative policy.
The rising prices have preventec around 60 per cent of the population from having two meals a day.
Questioning the policy of the government which he alleged is only robbing the people, the secretary stated that Left parties will continue to stand against such policies which are tormenting the poor.
The government should adopt an alternative policy at the earliest, instead of waiting to be pointed towards the issue, he added.
At the end of the protest a rally was carried out.
