Discussion on services for GBV, TIP victims convened

FXB India Suraksha in partnership with The Asia Foundation convened a meeting to discuss the optimization of screening and support services for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Trafficking in Persons (TIP) victims at the Imperial Hall of Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Satya Prakash, Chief Operating Officer of FXB India Suraksha, India stated that gender based violence victims become vulnerable to human trafficking but a majority of the population in India are not aware of this.
As a result, this discussion was conducted to provide awareness in this regard, he stated.
Various services and schemes have been provided in the interest of gender based violence and human trafficking victims.
And a study was conducted by The Asia Foundation to find out how these schemes and services have been implemented, he added.

The Chief Operating Officer continued to share that the rate of conviction of human trafficking cases in India is extremely low.
As per National Crime Record Bureau most of the cases of human trafficking occur in Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra etc.
These trafficked persons are then made to become sex workers or labourers, he informed.
He also encouraged people to call the helpline number 1098 if they encounter cases of human trafficking and urged them to exercise caution while travelling from one state to another.
He also stressed on the importance of organising community wide awareness programs on this matter.

Meanwhile Keisham Pradipkumar Singh, former member , Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights; Montu A, convenor, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights, Annie Mangsatabam, chief functionary, Integrated Women and Child Development Centre, Mala L, State Program Officer Dept of Social Welfare, among others, attended as panellists.
