Thoubal, April 25 2022:
Sylhet Manipuri Kang Association will organise its annual Kang Tournament at Leichom Leikai Mandhop, Sylhet town, Bangladesh from April 29 which will be participated by Kang teams from Manipur and Assam.
Speaking to a Manipur media team, Sylhet Manipuri Kang Association president Nripendra Yumnam informed that the tournament is being organised annually with the aim to propagate games and sports of Manipuri ancestors among the present and coming generations.
The Association has been working hard to make it the biggest Kang tourney and event of Manipuris living in Bangladesh, he added.
Nripendra continued that at a young age he saw the elders of the community playing the game with great enthusiasm.
It was widely played even after the end of 1971 Bangladesh Pakistan War.
But for some time, the game declined, may be due unavailability of Kang playing arena or due to busy life of people and other reasons.
Later, in 2004, Amorkhana Manipuri Social Welfare Association started organising Kang tournaments.
Sylhet Manipuri Kang Association also began holding a Kang tournament since three years back, he recalled.
Nripendra further conveyed that the said tournament will be held at a shed due to absence of specific Kang playing arena but in other parts of Bangladesh there are big playing areas for Kang.
