Imphal, April 25 2022:
The All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union has given the Education Department 10 days starting today to pay the honorarium due for the last 15 months to mid-day meal workers.
The union said this in a memorandum submitted to Education Minister Y Khemchand today and warned of a cease work strike if the department fails to fulfil their demand.
Arambam Thoi Chanu, general secretary of the All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union, added in the memorandum that Manipur has the lowest moratorium for mid-day meal workers, which is just Rs 1000 per month while some other States have a moratorium as large as Rs 10,000/- per month.
She added that the scheme was introduced in the State in 1995 and at present it covers 3369 schools providing mid-day meals to 1,70,000 students (one lakh seventy thousand).
The mid-day meal workers have been working without honorarium since the last 15 months but if the Government does not release the moratorium within the next ten days, the workers will be forced to cease work, she added.
