CPI raises posers on CM's anti-corruption vow

Imphal, April 05 2022: Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) secretary L Sotinkumar has informed that mass campaign would be organised in different parts of the state on April 18 in protest against the rising prices of petroleum products.

He also commented on the pledge made by CM N Biren not to indulge in corruption for even one rupee, stating that if the chief minister fails to keep his words then N Biren would be labelled as the biggest liar in the history of Manipur.

Sotinkumar noted that after the advent of the new government in the state, many new problems have cropped up.

Despite securing comprehensive majority, the government could not be formed in time and no new ministers, except for the appointed six, have been sworn in till dale.

CM Biren's declaration of not taking even one rupee for corrupt practices is praiseworthy.

However, Manipur ranks among the top corrupt states in the country.

If further corrupt activities were to continue after the declaration, CM N Biren will be regarded as the most untrustworthy person, he remarked, while stating that it is difficult not to react on statements spoken for hogging the limelight.

Regarding War on Drugs', Sotinkumar recalled that the Supreme Court had even questioned why cases to drug were not being taken up by the High Court.

The new government is also focussing on anti-corruption and war on drugs.

However, despite the apex court's instruction, the matter of drug kingpin Lhukhosei Zou is being kept low-key, which is questionable.

For War on Drugs' campaign to be successfully implemented in the state, there is the need for putting a stop on poppy plantations in the hill areas, by providing the people involved in the same with alternative livelihood.

Expressing elation over the removal of AFSPA from areas under 9 police districts of the state, the state secretary also lauded all those involved in the prolonged struggle against continued imposition of AFSPA.

He also urged for withdrawal of the Act from the hill areas as well.

Addressing a press meet at Irabot Bhawan, BT Road here on Tuesday , Sotinkumar opined that as the big corporates hold the lion's share of the petroleum markets the price of petrol cross the Rs 200 per litre mark if the corporates are not rein in when there is still time.

The problem at hand is the unnecessary rise of prices.

However, instead of doing all that is needed to resolve the issue, the BJP government is depending on the big corporates and multi-national companies.

As the corporates extended huge financial assistance during the polls, they are now earning huge profits by increasing the price of fuel and other essential items, claimed Sotinkumar.

He continued: "PM Modis election as the Prime Minister in 2014 has been a huge blessing for the big corporates of the country.

He waived loans amounting to crores of rupees, while labelling the same as non-performing assets.

The demonetisation exercise failed considerably when the wealthy sections raised their objection.

PM Modi seems to be unable to govern the country without the support of the wealthier section of the society and as such, the wealth of the country continues to be looted" .
