Imphal, August 25 2022:
Decrying the silence of the state government over the long-standing demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has announced resumption of agitation from August 26 onward.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen complex, Thangmeiband, here, on Thursday, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendra said that the committee through press releases on July 20 and August 2 had reminded the state government to submit relevant recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei community in the ST list.
However, the government is remaining silent over the matter till date and as a result, the committee will resume agitation from August 26 onwards, he said.
He further informed that the committee will organise sit-in protest at Keishampat on August 26 and at Thangmeiband on August 28 which will be followed by street corner campaigns in different parts of Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
They have applied for permit to the respective DCs and they believed that the DCs will grant the permit, K Bhogendra said.
He also expressed strong resentment that in-spite of the committee mounting pressure on the government through peaceful and democratic means the latter seems to be taking the peaceful protest lightly.
