State trio listed for Akademi, teacher awards

State writers Sonia Khundrakpam and Naorem Lokeshwor have been named among recipients of this year's Sahitya Akademi awards while teacher Nongmaithem Goutam Singh has been named among 46 best teachers of the country, who are to be conferred national award in connection with Teachers' Day celebration.
While young Manipuri writer Sonia Khundrakpam has been named for Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2022 award for her novel entitled 'Loyumba', writer Naorem Lokeshwor has been selected for Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar-2022 for his book on short stories for children named 'Tomthin Amashung Khuji'.
Names of the recipients of the awards for different languages of the country were announced after the Sahitya Akademi convened its executive board meet on Wednesday with president Dr Chandrasekhar Kambar in the chair.
Sonia Khundrakpam is the daughter of Manohar Shai and Sankirtana Guru Khundrakpam Kulachandra and Kiran Bala of Kongba Kshetri Leikai.
She was born on April 14, 1989 and Completed her BCA from IIT Delhi.
Sonia is life member of the Cultural Forum Manipur and Literary Society and her published books are 'Mahousagum' and 'Loyumba', both novels.
Naorem Lokeshwor was born on March 1, 1958 to Naorem Rajmani and Pramodini of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai.
Lokeshwor had completed BE (civil) and his significant published books are 'Ningaigi Mamai' (2009) and 'Hiden Macha Macha' (2015), both short story books.
Meanwhile, Eastern Ideal high school, Imphal East teacher Nongmaithem Goutam Singh has been named among 46 best teachers of the country who are to be honoured with national award in connection with Teachers' Day celebration.
The award will be presented by President Draupadi Murmu at this year's Teachers' Day celebration to be held on September 5 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
