Body of TA JCO retrieved from Ijei river

In all, 48 bodies of the landslide victims have been recovered so far, following retrieval of one more body from Ijei River on Wednesday.
The body recovered on the seventh day of search and rescue operation has been identified as that of subedar Umesh Lama of Territorial Army.
On the seventh day, the search and rescue operation which was launched at three different places began from early morning using 30 excavators and sniffer dogs.
Army and NDRF personnel along with local volunteers continued to patrol along the banks of Ijei River.
The search team also used through wall radar for locating bodies buried under the debris of landslide.
For the fifth day in succession, Relief & Disaster minister Awangbow Newmai visited the site and to oversee the search and rescue operation on Wednesday.
Later, the minister chaired a review meeting held at the office of Noney DC with all the heads of the rescue team.
A RICO radar machine of Indian Army is also on the way to aid the search operation team.
By Thursday, the search will shift focus on river dredging activity to drain out the soil so as to expedite the search operation.
So far, 26 different organisations have donated relief materials and Rs 2,20,000 in cash through the district administration for helping the rescue team and survivors of the landslide incident.
