CM rues lack of state students in HIT Manipur

Chief minister N Biren on Thursday welcomed students from various parts of the country studying at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) , Manipur and at the same time lamented the lack of students from the state in the institute.
Delivering a speech at the valedictory function of a Three-Day Workshop on Drone Awareness Training Programme today at the institute's Mantripukhri campus as the chief guest, the chief minister said that youth of the state and the region should take advantage of the presence of such prestigious institute in the state and study at the IIIT.
"IIIT is here", he said and urged the youth of the state and the region to get admitted in the institute, adding, "Our youths don't need to go outside to other states like Karnataka to study IT" .
"Today's world is an IT world," the chief minister stressed, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has put particular focus on the IT sector.
Today, people in the sector, who were once working outside have returned to the country and started working in the country, making the nation one of the best in the IT sector, he continued.
Biren also stressed the need to open a drone school in the state.
As part of the valedictory function, certificates were also distributed to the participants.
The workshop was participated by individuals from Indian army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, police and civil departments including agriculture, information technology, horticulture and soil conservation, health etc.
The event was also attended by chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, vice chancellor Dhanamanjuri University Prof N Rajmuhon Singh, and director HIT Prof Dr Krishnan Baskar among others.
Later, the chief minister inspected the ongoing construction work of the IT-SEZ building at Mantripukhri.
On the other-hand, CM Biren visited the site at Moirang Khunou where Sangai Ethnic Park is being constructed and inspected the ongoing work.
Sangai Ethnic Park is constructed to host the Sangai Festival as the main venue.
Huts representing different tribal groups of the state would be set up at the Park.
Interacting with the locals, N Biren expressed satisfaction on the support of nearby people in widening the approach road to the park.
The chief minister informed that the government had invited President Droupadi Murmu to attend the Sangai Festival this year.
As such, the government is putting much effort into constructing the park properly as the site will be the main venue for the Sangai Festival 2022, he added.
Continuing that the site had been chosen for construction of the Ethnic Park considering the suitability of the area, he said that hosting the festival near the habitat of Sangai (brow-antlered deer) would make visitors more aware of the state animal.
He further informed that Sangai Festival was held only at Imphal earlier.
However, with the formation of his government, the festival began to be held at different places of the state including Keibul Lamjao and as Cherry Blossom Festival at Mao.
He continued that, this year, the festival would also be held at other places including Khuga and Behiang where Manipur Southern Cultural Centre is being constructed, as Sangai stands for the whole state.
Loktak Development Authority chairman Moirangthem Asnikumar, MLA Thanga AC Tongbram Robindro, MLA Moirang AC Thongam Shanti, MLA Mao AC Losii Dikho, MLA Karong AC J Kumo Sha, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, additional chief secretary V Vumlunmang, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited managing director C Doungel, commissioner (tourism) PK Jha and other Senior officials accompanied the chief minister during the inspection.
Later, the chief minister visited the INA War Memorial at Moirang and inspected the ongoing work at the site.
