Imphal, July 18 2026:
The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has imposed a blanket ban on security operations in Tangkhul Naga villages with immediate effect from today, following the alleged failure to release four arrested civilians from 'Sharkaphung village' under Litan Police Station.
In a statement, the TNL claimed that the four civilians were arrested by a joint team of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Punjab Regiment, Madras Regiment and Bihar Regiment on July 14 .
They were "illegally arrested and falsely charged" under Section 173 of the BNSS, 2023, it claimed .
The four arrested persons have been identified as Wungphayo Kasar (24) son of Yurthan Kasar; AS Ninglum (29) son of AS Hopeson; Yaoreingam Lungleng (24) son of Makanmi Lungleng; and Vareiyo Lungleng (56) son of Tuifa Lungleng.
The TNL claimed that they were wrongly implicated as cadres of NSCN (IM) and are currently in judicial custody.
TNL alleged that the search and combing operation conducted by the joint security forces team violated human rights, fundamental rights and democratic principles of citizens.
It further alleged that security personnel vandalised school properties and violated the sanctity of religious institutions during the operation.
Questioning the conduct of security forces during the ongoing conflict, TNL stated that Tangkhul Naga villagers are already facing pressure and uncertainty due to the alleged aggression by the Kuki miscreants.
The Organisation also questioned the rationale behind conducting a combing operation in Litan areas and detaining civilians when the ambush on Central forces took place around 55 km away near Lungshang River under Hungpung village.
Claiming that the security forces acted based on "inaccurate intelligence inputs" provided by the Kukis, the TNL urged the law enforcement agencies under the State and Central Governments to be aware of the "manipulative policies of the Kuki narco terrorist" .
The TNL said its decision to impose the ban was taken after the 24-hour deadline issued for the unconditional release of the arrested persons expired on July 15 and appealed to all Tangkhul Naga villages to remain vigilant.
