Kangpokpi, July 18 2026:
The Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee (KDIDWC) has urged the Manipur Government to immediately sanction and release the pending Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) assistance for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), warning that continued delays have pushed thousands of conflict-affected families into severe financial hardship.
The committee said the monthly DBT has become the primary source of financial support for displaced families living in relief camps and rented accommodations after losing their homes, livelihoods and properties due to the ongoing ethnic conflict.
According to the committee, the financial assistance is mainly utilised for paying children's school fees, purchasing food, medicines and other basic household necessities, making its timely disbursement critical for the survival of displaced families.
Expressing concern that no DBT had been credited even as July nears its end, KDIDWC alleged that the delay had adversely affected thousands of beneficiaries, particularly children, senior citizens and economically vulnerable households.
The committee claimed that many students are at risk of discontinuing their education due to unpaid school fees, while numerous families are struggling to meet their daily food requirements in the absence of financial assistance.
Appealing for urgent intervention, KDIDWC called on the State Government and the concerned authorities to release the pending DBT without further delay, stating that the assistance would remain indispensable until displaced families are able to return safely to their native villages following the restoration of normalcy.
It further demanded that the Government establish a fixed monthly timeline for DBT disbursement and ensure greater transparency in the distribution process so that all eligible IDP families receive their entitled assistance without exclusion.
