Imphal, July 18 2026:
A sit-in protest was staged at Rani Gaidinliu (Freedom Fighter) Park, Mantripukhri, today, demanding justice for the six Naga civilians who were killed by Kuki militants in cold blood.
Organised by the United Zeliangrongpui Co-ordination Committee (UZCC), the protestors raised slogans demanding the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the killings, abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact signed between the Government and Kuki militant groups, declaration of KNF (P) as a terrorist organisation, removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, and justice for the six Naga victims.

The protesters also held placards with inscriptions such as "Punish the guilty", "Hear our call" and " Justice for the six Naga victims among others.
Speaking to the media, UZCC co-convenor Gondaimei Chaningai accused the Government of failing to take the killing of the six Nagas seriously and expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of the investigation.
She described the manner in which the Naga civilians were killed as barbaric.
Stating that indigenous people have been staging protests demanding justice for the victims, she alleged that both the Central and State Governments, however, have failed to respond to their demands.
Referring to the recent torching of six Meitei houses at Kanto Sabal by Kuki miscreants, she questioned how long the Government would allow Kuki militants to terrorise civilians.
Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) president Atongpi Kamei said that Kuki militants had been carrying out a violent campaign against indigenous people of the State since May 3, 2023 .
She further said that Kuki militants, who initially targeted the Meitei community, have now also attacked Nagas, while the Government has remained silent on these atrocities.
Of what use is an elected Government if it remains silent even when innocent civilians are abducted in the presence of security forces and killed in the most merciless manner ? she asked.
Questioning the role of elected representatives, she asked whether MLAs are only concerned about securing their positions.
She reminded them (the MLAs) that the power they hold was entrusted to them by the people.
She urged the Manipur Government to wake up and take steps to address the plight and suffering of the people.
The Government is responsible for protecting the lives and properties of the people and safeguarding the territory of the State, she said and alleged that the incumbent Government, however, is as good as non-existent.
She urged the Government to do the needful.
