Thoubal, February 13 2022:
Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh has said that the double engine government of the BJP has taken Heirok assembly constituency of Thoubal district backward during the past five years though the constituency was one of the leading constituencies when Congress was helming the affairs.
Speaking during the flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate for Heirok AC Moirangthem Okendro at Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai on Saturday, Ibobi opined that people of Heirok AC elected BJP candidate in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election with high hope of bringing development but the elected representative turned out to be trouble creator and destroyer of innocent people's properties including dwelling houses.
Except for thrashing people and destroying houses, what changes the elected representative had brought in the past five years in the constituency, he asked and maintained that the previous Congress government established two police stations in Heirok but BJP took the credit.
In the recent past, Heirok AC had good road, electricity, water supply, medical facility and improved law & order under the initiative of Moirangthem Okendro.
However, people of the constituency were entrapped by the BJP in the previous election resulting in regression in every sector, he said and appealed to people of the constituency to teach BJP a fitting lesson in the upcoming election.
While contending that violence in election occurred under the BJP rule, he said as there is no place for violence in democracy it is up to the people to elect candidate of their choices.
He then appealed to people of the constituency to make the upcoming election free and fair.
INC candidate Moirangthem Okendro said that Heirok AC was once known for good and it was a role model for the same but it is now known for disorder.
He then appealed to people of the constituency to ensure victory of Congress party in the upcoming election so as to save Heirok from its lost integrity.
The ceremony was also attended by AICC Manipur in charge Bhakta Charan Das, Sugnu MLA K Ranjit, Assam MLA Noorul Huda, District Congress Committee Thoubal and Block Congress Committee Heirok president and other leaders of the party.
