Imphal, November 23 2022:
Alleging that another huge sum of money amounting Rs 6.70 crore for two packages of road project at Noney had been withdrawn without completion, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has asked how the BJP Government has been administering the affairs of the State.
Yesterday, a team of MPCC led by K Meghachandra inspected the projects being implemented at Noney under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .
On the sideline, Meghachandra claimed that the road stretch between Noney and Nungnang village is to be constructed under two packages of PMGSY with the first package (package number MN07123) covering a total of nine kjlometres.
Altogether Rs 3.43 crore was sanctioned for the first phase of the project, he added.
Saying that the length of the second package (package number MN07124) is 8.5 kilometre and it was to be constructed with the expenditure of Rs 3.27 crore, Meghachandra claimed that the Government disbursed Rs 6.70 crore (approx) for the completion of the project along with the necessary certificate on October 8, 2020 .
The MPCC chief went on to claim that only a few metres of the road stretch covered in the first package were found blacktopped while much of the work of the second package has not even begun other than laying some loads of stones.
Further claiming that they also didn't find any bridge along the road stretch whose construction was claimed to have been completed earlier this year, Meghachandra alleged that the presence of communication infrastructure in hill districts is negligible.
Completion certifications of many other projects were given without executing any work, he claimed and added that the Government also didn't pay any attention to the suggestion given by the Opposition in the larger interest of the State.
"The administration of the State has failed miserably," Meghachandra maintained and asked how the BJP Government has been handling the affairs of the State.
Alleging that schemes of PMGSY cover most of the areas in hill districts and they were to be implemented at the expenditure of around Rs 5,000 crore, Meghachandra claimed that there, however, is a scam in projects worth over Rs 3,000 crore.
The Congress had also revealed the disbursal of Rs 1,700 crore without executing any work and it doesn't include the scam of Noney-Nungnang road stretch, he claimed.
Asking where is the transparency in the BJP Government, he said that the pace of development has become slower in Manipur as corruption is being done at the higher level.
