Sit-in staged against PMP, associated Bills

In protest against the passing of the PMP Bill, 2015 by the State Assembly and the killing of several protesters in Churachandpur, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Tengnoupal block staged a sit-in-protest at Tengnoupal bazar, Chandel district today.
A large number of villagers, students and village chiefs of Tengnoupal, subdivision participated in the protest demonstration holding placards inscribed with slogans like, "We want immediate annulment of the three Bills', 'Shame on you tribal MLAs', 'Stop discriminating the tribals', 'Why rubber bullet/tear gas for valley people and live bullets/guns for tribals' etc.

A condolence programme, led by Th Chongloi, Pastor, Tengnoupal Christian Church, was also held for the departed souls followed by a minute silence as a show of respect.
Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA), Chandel district joint secretary, Christina Ating Haokip; KSO Chandel district president Doumang Haokip, KSO Tengnoupal block's advisor T Seikholet Baite and chief of Phalbung village Lunkhomang Haokip delivered condolence speeches during the programme.
Shops, commercial establishments, educational institutions and Government offices in the sub-divisional head quarters remained closed during the protest.
Vehicular movements along Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway 102 also came to a grinding halt.
It was resumed only after the condolence program.
The Kuki People's Forum (KPF), Kuki Women Human Rights, Kuki Chiefs' Association, Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (ZSP), United Zou Organisation (UZO), Thadou Students' Association (TSA), Molnoi Area Welfare Council (MAWC), have also condemned the passing of the three Bills and the alleged short-sightedness of the O Ibobi led Congress Govt.
