Karbi Students' Association (KSA), Rengma Naga Students' Union (RNSU), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Hmar Students' Association (HAS), Students and Youth Council (SYC) and Khasi Students' Union (KSU) have submitted a joint memorandum on the current Manipur issue to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday through the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Assam.
The memorandum requested the PM to personally look into the problem faced by the tribal indigenous people of Manipur and to restore peace and communal harmony in Manipur State in particular and the Northeast region in general.
Condemning the killing of nine people and injuring 20 others by police in the recent Churachandpur incident, the memorandum also appealed to the Manipur Government to provide compensation to the bereaved families and the injured persons.
The memorandum also condemned Manipur CM for allegedly taking up anti-tribal policies which led to the loss of precious lives.
It said that the CM has no moral rights to continue as the Chief Minister and demanded him to step down in order that peace and harmony can be restored in Manipur.
The memorandum further requested the PM to immediately intervene in the matter created by the three Bills in question and urged the Manipur Government to repeal or revoke the said Bills which affect the rights of the tribals.
